Chemical vapor deposition is a process by which an appropriate chemistry is applied to the environment around your surface. Using one of a variety of heat sources causes the chemistry to react and form the surface of question.
There are many issues that are involved with assuring that this is a uniform coating both chemically and physically. A straight CVD coating is a physically bonded coating and hence doesn't have the inherent tenacity of a fusion coating without further treatment.
